New Facility, New Focus
Medical Arts Hospital, located in Lamesa, Texas, is the "hub" of healthcare to more than 83,000 residents in our service area. The Dawson County Hospital District recently broke ground on the new location for Medical Arts Hospital. This 70,000 sq. ft. facility will provide an increased focus on the day-to-day healthcare of our residents through the expansion of our Outpatient and Emergency Room Services. This 14 million dollar facility set to open in July 2008 will address the needs of today's patients and care for them in an environment that harmonizes with the way medicine is practiced today.
The current Medical Arts Hospital was erected under the Hill-Burton Act in 1958. It is licensed for forty-four beds. The closest tertiary facilities are sixty miles away, therefore; Medical Arts Hospital is a life-saving and necessary component of several communities in our service area. Our facility provides acute care, swing bed, obstetrics including newborn, pediatric and surgical services. Our Emergency Room is a Certified Level IV Trauma facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Premier Home Health Services
Medical Arts Hospital is recognized as a continuum of care provider. We are recognized for having the premier Home Health agency in the region. This hospital-based Home Health department was implemented in 1988 and has provided an incredible service to Lamesa and the surrounding communities. We serve patients as far away as 70 miles in 13 counties, including Lubbock. We provide total care and a wide array of outpatient services for patients in the communities of Lubbock, Denver City, O'Donnell, Tahoka, Andrews, Big Spring, Seminole, Yoakum and Lamesa.
Beneficial Partnerships
Medical Arts Hospital us operated by the Dawson County Hospital District through a strong partnership with Covenant Health Systems. Our relationship with Covenant provides our administration with outstanding leadership and consulting wisdom. We also retain access to their network of twelve hospitals and group purchasing agreements at no cost to us. Although we receive no direct funding from Covenant Health System, our community benefits from the many programs, options and opportunities they provide Medical Arts Hospital.
Wellness Pioneers
For more than 16 years we have been proud to provide an excellent Cardiac Rehabilitation/ Wellness program, including Phase II and Phase III programs, as well as an ongoing program for wellness. Our patients can complete the first two phases and then continue their exercise with supervision in our wellness program.
Five Campuses serving our Community
In addition to the main campus of Medical Arts Hospital, the Dawson County Hospital District also manages two Rural Health Clinics, a successful Home Health Agency and health facilities at the Preston E. Smith Unit.
Health Clinics
Our two active rural health clinics location feature five board-certified family practice providers. Three physicians, a Nurse Practioner and a Physician Assistant provide excellent care at two separate clinics. A Specialty Clinic was opened in 1997 to allow specialty physicians an opportunity to provide services to our community. Without this clinic, our patients would have to travel several hours to their care. Today this Specialty Clinic hosts 10 physicians offering specialties such as Dermatology, Orthopedics, Urology, Cardiology, Nephrology and General Surgery.
Preston E. Smith Unit
Medical Arts Hospital is proud to be the contracted provider for healthcare services to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Preston E. Smith Unit located in Dawson County. More than 40 employees service clinics in both the minimum and maximum security units.
