Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Department of Medical Arts Hospital is dedicated to the provision of high quality programs for all patients and members. We provide secondary prevention and rehabilitation programs for patients with all types of coronary disease. Equal emphasis is directed toward the prevention of heart disease for those apparently healthy members. Our goal is to provide safe and effective physical exercise programming and to motivate and educate patients and members concerning a healthy lifestyle. There are three types of programs provided through the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department: Phase II Cardiac Rehab, the Maintenance Program, and the Wellness Program.

If you have had cardiac problems, such as a heart attack or cardiac surgery, you may benefit from our Phase II Cardiac Rehab Program. This program is designed to help restore you to optimal function. It consists of twelve weeks of three sessions per week and requires an order from your physician. During the exercise sessions, your heart rhythm and blood pressure are closely monitored. Your exercise regimen is supplemented with education on proper exercise; diet, smoking abstinence, medications, and stress reduction. After the twelve weeks of rehabilitation, most patients regain the stamina, strength, and confidence to continue with healthy active lives.

The Maintenance Program is an exercise program designed for persons who have completed the Phase II Cardiac Rehab Program. This program consists of two or three sessions per week lasting approximately one hour each. Exercises are supervised by a nurse or trained assistant. You will exercise on a stationary bicycle, a treadmill, and an arm ergrometer. Everyone is encouraged to continue the healthy lifestyle activities you began during the Phase II Program.

The Wellness Program is an exercise program for persons wishing to develop a healthier lifestyle that includes regular exercise. It consists of supervised sessions two or three times per week lasting approximately one hour each. Exercises are done on a stationary bicycle, a treadmill, and an arm ergrometer. Participation in this program requires an approval from your physician.
