Job Summary for Plant Operations Director

Administers and directs program to maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment to procure or generate all utilities and their distribution systems; coordinates these activities with the other departments to insure safe and efficient operations. Attends staff meetings to ascertain hospital policies, assists in their development, and interprets these policies to the facilities staff. Directs safety, fire control, security and disaster events.

Responsibilities and Duties of Plant Operations Director:

  • Directs staff in the fulfillment of project assignments
  • Assures that staff maintains required training in hazardous materials and safety by CMS guidelines
  • Maintains safe working conditions and practices
  • Trains employees in proper work practices and maintains training on a regular basis
  • Monitors department staff effectively participates in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills safely
  • Maintains the interior and exterior of all buildings and grounds in all seasons
  • Ensures the performance, condition, and reliability of all plumbing, mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure efficient operations
  • Develops, evaluates and maintains Preventative Maintenance Programs
  • Development, implements and maintains policies and procedures
  • Schedules required major equipment purchases, remodeling, and special projects
  • Prepares departmental budget and reviews billing from contractor/vendors for accuracy
  • Plans and coordinates fire drills
  • Ensures that the maintenance staff is adequately trained in the areas of the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, environmental controls, security systems, etc.
  • Rotates call with staff

 

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelors of Science degree in engineering, architecture, safety, construction management or related field preferred. Can be replaced with five years’ experience in related career field
  • High School diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience in motivating, training, appraising, and directing professional and/or technical staff in a maintenance position
  • Working knowledge in operation and maintenance services, grounds keeping, low pressure hot water boilers, refrigeration and air conditioning, generators, plumbing and electrical systems, and equipment maintenance
  • Must be knowledgeable in building codes and safety regulations
